In first grade, I wore my crisply starched plaid uniform with Bobby socks in Mary Janes on my feet and Shirley Temple curls to complete the look. Wearing that, you’d think that recess would be fairly tame. But no, even dressed up, we ran around, playing tag, the Hokey Pokey, jumping rope, laughing.
